London : The Tour started in London for the first time ever. You can't just spend one or two days in London, so we stretched our stay out to 5 days. These are our pics of non-cycling related stuff.

London Prologue : July 7. A 7.9km time trial through the streets on London. We got there early, checked out some of the displays and staked our viewing spot in Hyde Park along Serpentine Road. They estimated a million people lined the prologue course and i believe them. Great atmosphere. It was also our first taste of the TdF Caravan - a 10-25km long (depending on who you talk to) parade of tour sponsors who drive the tour route an hour before the riders arrive throwing out gobs of free stuff at the crowd (hats, keychains, pens, cards, CDs, Bart Simpson masks... you name it, they had it).

Arras/Vimy Ridge : July 9 - 12. Since we would have lots of opportunies to see stages during our Baxter tour, we decided to set up camp for a few days in the town of Arras in Northern France to visit some war memorials. Arras has its place in history as some of the fiercest WWI battles took place here.

Stage 7: Col de la Columbiére : July 14. Bourg en Bresse - Le Grand Bornand. The first mountain stage of the tour and our first day in the Alps with our Sporting Tours tour. The Cat 1 Col de la Columbiere was the final climb of the day before descending to the finish line in Le-Grand Bornand. It was an exciting stage to watch as this was the first major climb of the tour and would start to seperate the field.

Stage 8: Beaufort : July 15. Le Grand Bornand-Tignes. We watched todays stage from the town of Beaufort at the base of the first major climb of the day, the Cat 1 Cormet de Roselend. Sadly, it would be the last time we would see one of our favourite riders, Robbie McEwen, as he missed the day's time cut.

Rest Day: Alpe D'Huez : July 16. The first rest day in the Tour but not for us. Today was our chance to tackle one of the most famous climbs in the Tour de France - the famed 21 hairpin turns of Alpe D'Huez (13.8km long, ~3700ft of elevation gain).

A Break From The Tour : July 18-19. As the tour moved out of the Alps, we had a few flat stages that were a long way from our hotel so these were basically days to relax, take a break and enjoy Provence.

Stage 13: Albi Time Trial : July 21. The first individual "race of truth" in the Tour - cyclist versus the clock in a 54km individual time trial. We started with a ride from just outside Toulouse to Albi. Timed it perfectly because once we got to Albi, it poured.

Stage 14: Plateau de Beille : July 22. Mazamet - Plateau de Beille. The first of two mountain-top finishes we had the chance to see on our tour. Jen and Ed went their different ways today as Jen wasn't feeling well and struggled even to ride the (mostly) flat 25 km from Foix to Les Cabannes (town at the base of the Plateau), so she watched from the lower slopes while Ed climbed nearly to the top.

Stage 15: Mauléon-Barousse : July 23. Foix - Loudenvielle - Le Louron. Decided to see this stage from the town of Mauléon-Barousse, at the base of the Port de Balès climb. After yesterday's climb, Ed's legs were shot and Jen still wasn't feeling great so it was a nice easy ride around town today before staking out our viewing spot.

Rest Day: Lourdes : July 24. The second rest day for the Tour. We had the chance to ride up yet another famous Tour climb, the Col du Tourmalet. We gave the ride a pass this time (it will still be there) and we decided to explore the Town of Lourdes - home of St. Bernadette and the Grotto of Massabielle.

Stage 16: Col d'Aubisque : July 25. Orthez - Col d'Aubisque. The final mountain stage of the tour and our last chance to see a mountain top finish. We were determined to see the stage right at the finish so that meant getting to the stage from the backside from Lourdes. A 15km flat ride out to the town of Argeles-Gazost, a painful 20km climb up the Col de Soulor, a slight descent followed by another 10km climb to the top of Col d'Aubisque. 3700ft of climbing today - this was going to hurt but since it was our last day of our Baxter tour, we would have lots of time to recover - and the descent WAS a lot of fun!!!
